IFS Great Lakes Retreat~Special “Deep Dive” Spring Edition

“Exploring Our Cultural and Legacy Burdens: An Intensive IFS Weekend Retreat with Kay Gardner”

Legacy burdens are beliefs, feelings and emotions that are handed down through the family line, either directly or indirectly. These beliefs become burdens if tied to shame. Sometimes legacy burdens only go back a generation or two, but others can go far back, even hundreds of years. Cultural burdens are those we receive from our cultures, and both create beliefs and patterns of behavior that can be perpetuated over many generations, such as the continuation of trauma in a family, or internalized Patriarchy in our culture.

These burdens are not just learned behaviors but part of a distinct energy field that connects us to each other in any group (ethnic, religious, etc.), but especially in our families. This energy is not just a concept ~ it is a physical presence or entity that is held or embodied in each participant, and this energy can get passed on to future generations if not attended to.

This retreat offers participants a framework and greater clarity on working with both their own and their clients’ legacy and cultural burdens. Within a small-group, intimate setting, this retreat will be highly experiential as well as didactic, allowing for a deep dive into the exploration of the sacred energy of legacy burdens.
